Flat Renovation
Earl’s Court, London
Brief
This Edwardian flat had been rented out for decades and not renovated since the 1980s. The client, an avid collector who had lived in many cities worldwide, wanted to make the flat their permanent home.
Solution
Stephen Ball designed a full upgrade to the property. It was stripped to bare brick including plumbing and electrics. Structural modifications and the removal of internal walls transformed a compartmentalised interior into larger and brighter open-plan spaces. A dark central corridor was removed, and circulation was instead relocated to the sunlit perimeter of the flat, with access to rooms gained via newly created tall double doors. The flat’s original 1904 features were retained and enhanced where possible, and bespoke shelving built to display the client’s collections.
